Buying Ice Cream Van

If you are looking to purchase an ice cream van you have to be aware that there are lots more to go wrong than on a standard van. You have additional mechanical moving parts, refrigeration and compressors to go wrong:

  • Direct drive which powers the soft ice cream machine from the engine.
  • The bearings that hold all moving shafts for the soft machine & engine.
  • Rubber donuts that connect to the shafts.
  • At least half a dozen ice cream machine belts and pulleys.
  • Ice cream machine Bock or York compressor for refrigeration.
  • Being a mobile, copper pipes can vibrate and gas leaks can occur.
  • There may be a slow refrigerant leak hence not going down to required temperature.
  • Beater, pump, seals or dispensing head may be worn or damaged.
  • Condensing unit to refrigerate the rear freezer and chiller.
  • Expansion valves on freezer and soft machine.
  • Clutch on soft machine compressor and direct drive from engine.
  • Beater bearings in the soft machine mechanism.
  • You then have the wear and tear on any of the above causing a potential breakdown.
